Take some time to reflect and share anything that you either found interesting during the weekly readings and/or any Web 2.0 applications that you might have tried and/or lessons that you incorporated technology...

I tried a lot of things this week that I was excited about, there were glitches but instead of accepting defeat I am looking for ways around things. I almost was Skyping with a girl out sick but she cannot download it onto her mom's work computer. Instead of saying "okay, thanks for trying", I said what else can we do? My IT guy said we could videotape the class, burn a DVD and send it to her weekly. I think it's a great way to still use technology even though it isn't the initial idea. I'm really happy to have my mom, grandmother, and sister Skyping with me so it was all worth it!

I used storyline/storybook this week. It was great. I put it up on the smart board. It was great because Melissa Gilbert read the story with the different voices and showed the pictures/words to the students. It was engaging and the students were able to repy it if they needed to in order to make a connection to the story. I am looking foward to trying more...

The beginning of Ch 9 opens with a quote that reminds us of the massive growth of techonology, at furhter, it is here to stay " the time is approaching when mobile phones will be as much a part of education as a book bag". The student is looking different than it did 50 yrs ago, and actually 10 yrs ago for that matter. Students are coming to us with differnt tools and resources and it is our job to make the most of these tools and use a students proior knowlege. ALlowing students an opportunity to showase the skills they use in their day to day life will allow connection to the class content and learning experience.

Not to the overstate the obvious, but baby boomers grew up with less information at hand......ok, so this is the digital age and things are moving faster than we babyboomers can handle. Tapscott talks about digital immersion...."has given the Net-Gens the visual skills that make them superior scanners." It's depressing in a way....as a late-babyboomer I feel overwhelmed. Not scared. Just overwhelmed....I can't do it all together.

I wish I could say I tried more with my students. I'm still trying to figure out how to utilize some of this technology we are reading about it...and I am not at all prepared to try something with my students yet. I know I need to get over myself and my technology phobias...I am really trying!!!

I am not sure if getting my kids to work on our new website has been more excited for me or them? We are beginning our on line survey, family cookbooks and flip phone videos:) This is good stuff!

I am really enjoying working with my students on the tech lessons, but I kind of feel like I am only 1 step ahead.

This week, for the first time, I placed our digital camera into the hands of students to make a movie about what the class was learning. This action opened up a new world of learning for my young students and me. So far I can see that making movies in the classroom will engage the students in technology literacy, language acquisition, social development and metacongnition. Like some of the reading this week illuminated, I'm beginning to see how movie journaling could also assist family-school-community relationships.
